Context

What is Prism

Prism is the name of Disney's design system. The name "Prism" comes from a single source of light that passes through a prism, it is dispersed at a variety of angles to produce a rainbow of colors. This metaphor matches their strategy - by taking one universal framework, intersecting its elements in different ways, and passing them through distinct brand style guides, they are able to produce a kaleidoscope of products and experiences.

I created design systems for GMA, ABC News, and ABC Local News. I also produced templates for other Disney product teams (ABC, ESPN, ESPN Fantasy, Disney, Disney Now, Freeform, FX, GMA, Marvel, National Geographic, Nat Geo TV, Oscars, and Star Wars) to create their brand's design systems.

Goal

What We Accomplished

We created a design system that offered a library of visual style and components documented and released as reusable code for developers and/or tool(s) for designers. This system also offers guidance on accessibility, page layout, and editorial and less often branding, data viz, UX patterns, and other tools.

I was on the X-Brand Design team who is responsible for working on any design effort that spans multiple brands and products within Disney. The primary goals are to ensure design consistency across the Disney product portfolio and enhance the overall consumer experience.

Our X-Brand Design team worked closely with members of each Vertical Design team to develop and stress-test solutions before they were added to the Prism framework. Prior to finalization, the DTCI Design team as a whole, our engineering partners and members of our product teams also reviewed and fed back on Prism content and specifications.
